Bent Pipette Tip Detection in Automated Liquid Handling Systems

The NF-TR12 side-view fiber-optic cable combined with the D12R digital fiber-optic sensor is used to detect bent pipette tips. Bent pipette tips can cause insertion failures when entering narrow-diameter tubes. Therefore, inspection is performed immediately before the insertion process to determine whether the tip is acceptable or defective. By using two sets of through-beam fiber-optic cables arranged with their optical axes crossing each other, bends in multiple directions can be detected. This configuration enables reliable bent-tip detection while eliminating the need for expensive through-beam laser sensors, helping to reduce overall system costs.
